“Let Food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” Hippocrates

Never before have we as a nation been so unhealthy and never before as a nation have we eaten so poorly. In today’s world of processed food, fast food, and GMO crops, where antibiotics and steroids, food coloring, additives and preservatives, pesticides and herbicides, trans fats and high fructose corn syrup are being added to our daily diet, it is no wonder that we are a nation riddled with obesity and chronic diseases. Hippocrates states “let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. At Oaktree Wellness Center, we believe that food can be medicine and that by changing diet and lifestyle, many of today’s common ailments and disease can be reduced or eliminated. Lisa Drost, ND specializes in counseling patients on how to eat and what to eat to achieve maximal health. During training for her naturopathic doctorate, it was nutrition that called her the most and has become her passion. She believes that a diet rich in whole foods, emphasizing clean, local, seasonal and sustainable choices is the key to helping patients rid themselves of a variety of maladies. Each patient is individually counseled to make sure their unique needs are being met. Although she does not encourage vegetarian and vegan diets, she gladly works with patients that choose that lifestyle to make sure their nutritional needs are being met. Lisa Drost is an avid gardener, loves to cook and has local sources for many different types of food that she prepares for her family. She is well versed in cooking different types of ethnic foods, has studied cooking with people from around the world and is currently working on a book to include a yearly seasonal menu.

Naturopathic Nutrition stresses the use of whole and organic foods as medicine - an integral concept of healing in many indigenous societies. Today, we see that a return to chemical-free foods, along with other dietary measures, is an effective answer to many health complaints and common conditions.
